FFS or facial feminization surgery is several procedures to help the face look more feminine. The methods are usually available for transgender women transitioning from male to female. Several techniques make up FFS, including browlift, lip lifting, eyelid surgery, hairline lowering, jaw reduction, and rhinoplasty. Here are some things you can expect.

FFS Basics

Facial feminization surgery alters facial features to look more feminine and less masculine. Each person is different, so it may involve several procedures or just one or two. Soft tissue, bone, and cartilage may need reshaping. Masculine faces tend to be square and somewhat sharp, so surgical procedures will make the face heart-shaped and softer. The forehead and brow ridge are shaped, so they have feminine highlights and contours. Most people who need FFS desire changes to the hairline, nose, forehead, and jaw.

Why Choose FFS?

There are many reasons people choose FFS. Most often, it’s transgender women who desire a more feminine appearance. Cisgender women often request facial feminization surgery too. People experiencing gender dysphoria may choose FFS, even though they don’t identify as transgender women.

How Long Does it Take?

The length of time FFS takes will depend on the procedures you choose. It can take eight to nine hours if everything is done at one time. In other cases, the surgeries are split, with some done on one visit and the others a few weeks later to allow for healing.
